SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2024 ■ 11 TRACKING THE PACK Team Poland to a 13th-place finish in the 4x100 freestyle relay. He swam a 48.39 split, the team's fastest in the event. Kacper Stokowski helped Team Poland's 4x100 medley relay team to a sixth-place finish in its heat. The Wolfpack had two other swim- mers compete as individuals at the Olympic Games. Kaii Winkler, an in- coming freshman, swam a 52.64 in his 100-meter butterfly heat, while making his Olympic debut for Germany. Andreas Vazaios, the Pack's first four-time Olympian, competed in two freestyle relays with Greece, the 4x200 and 4x100, but neither team made the finals. Tennis Former NC State star Diana Shnaider became the first Wolfpack tennis player to make the Olympic Games, and she finished with a silver medal alongside Mirra Andreeva in women's doubles at Roland Garros. The Russian duo, competing as neu- tral athletes due to the war in Ukraine, cruised through the competition before falling in three sets to Italy in the gold medal match. The 2023 ACC Rookie of the Year also competed in singles but was eliminated in the second round. Basketball It had been a while since an NC State basketball player competed in the Olympics. Before the Paris Games, the Wolfpack's most recent representative was Kenny Carr in 1976. This year, the Pack was back, with guard Lorenzo Brown starting all three games at point guard for Spain. Brown, who led the ACC in assists in 2012-13 before starting a professional career, averaged 6.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists in 26 minutes of action per game, but Spain did not ad- vance to the quarterfinal round. Track And Field Rounding out the Wolfpack's Olym- pic contingent was former sprinter McKenzie Long, who departed NC State as the program's record holder in the 200-meter dash.
