TRACKING THE PACK SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2024 ■ 13 PACK PERFORMERS Will Buete, Men's Soccer The Marc Hubbard coaching era is underway, and Buete helped get it off to a winning start with 2 goals on the Wolfpack's opening weekend. A senior from Wake Forest, N.C., Buete scored the season's first goal when he punched in a deflection in the 41st minute against High Point on Aug. 22. Buete's goal evened the score at 1-1, and the Pack went on to win, 3-2. Three days later, he scored on a penalty kick in the 88th min- ute, and NC State held on for a 1-0 win over Florida Gulf Coast. Buete is com- ing off a junior season in which he started all 18 games and ranked second on the team with 11 points on 4 goals and 3 assists. Zeke Correll, Football Ahead of his final season at the collegiate level, the veteran center has been named to the preseason watch lists for both the Rimington and Outland tro- phies. A graduate transfer, the 6-foot-3, 310-pound Correll made 10 starts at Notre Dame last year and helped the Irish average 39.1 points per game, the second-highest mark in program history. The Cincin- nati native is one of two NC State players who are on the watch lists for multiple awards heading into the 2024 season. (Graduate quarterback Grayson McCall is the other.) The Rimington Trophy goes to col- lege football's top center, while the Outland Trophy goes to the top interior offensive lineman in the nation. Jacob Cozart, Baseball The Cleveland Guardians chose Cozart with the 48th overall selection in the Major League Baseball Draft on July 14. A 60-game starter in 2024, Cozart became the 22nd player in Wolfpack history to be selected in the first two rounds of the draft. The catcher from High Point, N.C., batted .305 during his junior year, helping NC State reach the College World Series. He had 19 home runs, 60 runs scored and 54 RBI while compiling a .994 fielding per- centage and throwing out 14 of 42 runners on stolen base attempts. Cozart was assigned to the Lake County Captains of the Midwest League, the Guard- ians' High-A affiliate based in Eastlake, Ohio. Olivia Pratapas, Women's Soccer NC State held two of its first four opponents score- less, and Pratapas was a key part of that defensive effort. Heading into the Pack's game against visiting Charlotte on Aug. 28, the junior goalkeeper from Clemmons, N.C., was leading the ACC with 12 saves. No other goalkeeper in the conference had made more than 9 saves to that point in the season. Her busiest day came in a 5-0 shutout of Virginia Commonwealth on Aug. 25 in Richmond, Va. Pratapas tied a career-high against the Rams, finishing with 8 saves. She is looking to build on a junior season in which she started 14 games and made 70 saves, with 3 shutouts and a 2.07 goals-against average. — Matt Herb 540 40 70 70 401 401 64 1 1 40 440 10 Min 10 Min 15 Min 20 Min 35 Min 15 Min 35 Min 10 Min Auburn-Knightdale Rd 10 Min 10 Min Rock Quarry Rd.
