❱ DONOVAN EDWARDS BURNS HUSKIES AGAIN, EMBRACES LEADERSHIP ROLE Michigan fell 27-17 in its first road trip of the season, a loss at Washington in the rematch of last season's College Football Playoff National Champion- ship game. The Wolverines won the one that mattered most, though, 34-13 at NRG Stadium in Houston. But the throughline of both games against the Huskies was running back Donovan Edwards, who went off for 6 carries, 104 yards and a pair of touch- downs, from 41 and 46 yards out, back on Jan. 8. The Oct. 5 edition of the game saw Edwards lead Michigan in rushing with 14 carries for 95 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown that got U-M back into the game in the second quarter after falling behind 14-0 early. Edwards knows that as a team captain, he will play a key role in getting the team to bounce back from the second loss of the season with so many showdown games still remaining. "It's a collective thing," Edwards said. "Coach [Sherrone Moore] meets with us every Monday, wants to get back to the drawing board come Monday. But ultimately it's the captains' job to keep this team's morale [up]. I'm going to continue to uplift everybody the best I can. At the same time, being a captain, I have to point out the bad things, too. There are a couple things we have to clean up. "But ultimately it's us. Collective offensive, defense and special teams. And we're Michigan football. Just me being on the offensive side of the ball, I've got to continue to uplift the guys, continue to keep guys' confidence up. Just keep doing what we're doing." — Anthony Broome PHOTO BY LON HORWEDEL NOVEMBER 2024 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 7
