C O M ON DREW ALLAR'S DEVELOPMENT AS PSU'S STARTING QUARTERBACK … It can't be overstated that [the USC game] was Drew's coming out party. On the road, one of our toughest opponents that should have been ranked if we're talking talent/potential, had to lead a critical drive with multiple fourth-down conversions, must-win game, etc. There is [no sign of] hesitant Drew anymore. The kid is turning into a straight-up baller right in front of our eyes. I can live with the mistakes (which he will learn from) as long as we continue to see confident gunslinger Drew out there. — Tdrich07 Drew had some throws today that were insane. He played great [against the Trojans], and I'm sure being the humble guy he is, he will say he needs to improve and not throw picks or see that Trey Wallace was wide open in the end zone on the third-and-goal with 10 minutes left that he threw to Tyler Warren and wound up short. I'm hoping he can continue to not sweat those and be proud of gutting out a win and how well he played. Big difference from last year when he wasn't playing loose. — BrianRince He was excellent. The first INT was bad, but whatever. The second was an aggressive throw that was slightly off, and the defenders made a great play. But outside of those throws, he was dominant. He made big play after big play until you just stopped noticing that he was doing it. — leftcoastlion He definitely showed the competitive fire that I have been waiting to see. Leadership qualities starting to come out, and he is taking ownership of this team, which I love. Just keep balling. Mistakes happen, but the aggressive play was refreshing. Made some huge plays in crunch time. Hope it leads to overall growth for the team, as I expect it to. — BSkalPSU1 I loved the fire in Drew in the fourth quarter. He had some questionable throws, and I would love to see him run more (no, not like Trace McSorley), as I think it adds so much when the defense has to account for him. BUT, he made some plays today that were critical and plays that I don't think he would have made last season. — PSUJim If I'm an NFL GM/owner, I'd be drooling over Drew. Kid is so talented, yet so much untapped potential. Upside is unprecedented, in my opinion. — TomPSU823 ON WHETHER PENN STATE SHOULD HAVE A PROTECTED RIVALRY WITH USC … Yes, I know that could make it tougher for us. But it seems like every time we play USC, it's a war and really good, wide-open football. Our fan base respects their history. Those brands work really well together. It's hard not to get excited for these two teams. — MrBlonde88 We're the only Big Ten program that doesn't currently have a protected rival ... and I'm OK with that. We're not Ohio State's rival. We're not Michigan's rival. We're not even Michigan State's rival. Anything with Maryland and Rutgers feels forced, even though they make the most sense geographically. I just don't see PSU or the Big Ten doing it. It doesn't make sense for PSU logistically. Having two potential West Coast trips in a season is a lot. From the Big Ten perspective, they want to maximize the number of teams that make the playoff, so I don't see them advocating for what may be a playoff make-it-or-break-it game for both teams if they both have the chance to make it. — PSULion55 From a West Coast recruiting perspective it's a good idea. A presence every other year makes sense. — Anon1702436604 The idea of a permanent annual game between teams on the complete opposite ends of the country feels inherently bad. — LeFennecFox I'm fine not having a protected rival, but if we're going to have one, USC would make the most sense. We were the first Rose Bowl game in its current stadium, so that's some neat history, at least. — 40 Yard Dash I enjoy the USC games a lot, but I actually like not having a protected rivalry. — bobcampb Our only true rival was Pitt, but that is long gone. I embrace having a fully open schedule. We are going to get more variety than anyone else in a Power Four conference. — _getmyjive11 4 N O V E M B E R 2 0 2 4 Allar completed 30 of 43 passes for 391 yards in leading Penn State to a 33-30 comeback victory at USC.
