JUNE/JULY 2025 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 13 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS A member of two Big Ten championship teams (2023, '24), Jana Peachey was named first-team all-conference in 2024. Peachey is a member of the Wolverines' first varsity eight boat, seeking a third consecutive Big Ten title in late May. Here are some things about Peachey that you may not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From Lower Sackville, Nova Sco- tia: "It's pretty close to the ocean, so I definitely love the ocean and seawater. Everyone in Nova Scotia is so kind. It's very much a stereotype that Canadians are kind, but I think Nova Scotians are the kindest." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "Stray Hen. I love a little breakfast, brunch moment." Best Meal She Can Cook By Herself: "Me and my room- mates cook pretty much all of our meals together, and we really like making a stir fry with lots of vegetables, chicken and rice." Favorite Professional Athlete: "My favorite Olympian is my teammate, [graduate student] Abby Dent. She's been an inspiration for me forever, because she's also Canadian. She was in the Olympic 8 this summer, and I looked up to her before I came to Michigan as an older national team athlete, and then as a teammate." Sport She Enjoys Besides Rowing: "I love playing bas- ketball. I started playing when I was 12 and played through high school. A few times, we've played team basketball games at the IM, and those are so much fun." Favorite Movie: "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days." Favorite TV Show: "Grey's Anatomy." Why She Chose Michigan: "The team culture and the coaches. They embody a team, and one thing Coach Mark [Rothstein] always said was to never put another person above the team, and I really resonated with that. Another factor was the proximity to Canada." What She Hopes To Do After Michigan: "I would like to continue my rowing career with Canada, if possible. For my actual career, the goal right now is to pursue a master's degree in social work and move on to be a therapist in some aspect." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "Being around the team and being around the girls. One that sticks out the most is, one time we had to cross-train and we were all pretty tired, but we put all the bikes in a circle and ran a DIY spin class. It was just fun. Just having the girls always by you, and the general broad sweep of things, the memories of just the girls is the best." Overall Experience At Michigan: "I can't even put it into words. It's just remarkable. All the opportunities Michigan gives, the network it gives you, I didn't fully understand before I came to Michigan. It's just remarkable. That's the one word I could give it." — Clayton Sayfie Peachey, a psychology major who earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2024, competed in the World U23 Championships for Canada in 2023.
