C O M Florence Caron — Women's Track and Field Caron earned second-team All-America honors in the 10,000- and 5,000-meter races in June at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. The senior middle-distance standout from La Malbaie, Quebec, had already set a Penn State record in the 10,000 at the Raleigh Relays in March (32:26.52), and she lowered it at Hayward Field by finishing in 32:23.71 to place 11th in the final. It was her second All-America per- formance in the 10K, coming one year after she earned second-team honors as a junior. Two days later, Caron finished 16th in the 5,000 with a time of 15:49.72 to claim another second-team All-America nod. Paxton Kling — Baseball Kling was named first-team All-Big Ten and made the league's All-Defensive team following his debut season with the Nittany Lions. The junior outfielder from Roaring Spring, Pa., who transferred to Penn State from LSU, led the team this year in batting average (.358), slugging percentage (.632), hits (76) and runs scored (63). He was tied for the team lead with 13 home runs and was tied for second with 54 RBI. Kling helped the Nittany Lions reach the Big Ten Tournament semifinals and finish 33-23 overall. In addition to his all-conference honors, he received second-team All- Region East laurels from the American Baseball Coaches Association. Brooke Klosowicz — So ball Penn State's breakout sophomore was ranked 86th in Softball America's postseason list of the nation's top 100 players, issued in early June. The designated hitter from Johnsburg, Ill., enjoyed a historic season at the plate for the Nittany Lions. She set PSU single-season records for doubles (23) and RBI (53), while compiling the fourth-best batting average (.422) in program history. Of her 65 hits, 38 went for extra bases, and she tied for the team lead with 13 home runs. Klosowicz's offensive perfor- mance helped the PSU softball team conclude its 60th anniversary sea- son with an appearance in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. Ma Traynor — Men's Lacrosse Prior to Penn State's appearance in the Final Four, Traynor received All-America honors from USA Lacrosse (second team), the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (third team) and Inside Lacrosse (honorable mention).
