Los Angeles (population 3.8 million) is a sprawling West Coast mega- lopolis; State College (population 40,687) is a leafy hamlet tucked away in a rural Central Pennsylvania valley. Aside from serving as the homes to two of the 10 win- ningest teams in Division I history, they don't have a lot in common. And yet, while Hudson's hometown dwarfs his current residence in most re- spects, it's the latter that is virtually un- matched as a setting for college football games. LA's size works against it as a foot- ball venue, offering endless diversions whenever the local teams prove insuf- ficiently entertaining. In State College, by contrast, all the re- gion's civic passion gets channeled into those Saturday gatherings in Beaver Sta- dium. It's a sight to behold, and Hudson, a redshirt senior receiver who transferred from USC to Penn State this past winter, is eager to see it firsthand when he suits up for the Nittany Lions. "Just being able to play in a college town where everybody bleeds Penn State football, it's something that I can't wait to experience," Hudson said. "It's something that's always on my mind. My brother played at Oregon, so I understand how their fans are toward their team, and that's something I've always wanted to experi- ence. I'm blessed to have that experience now, and I can't wait." Hudson, younger brother of former Ducks defensive tackle Keyon Ware-Hud- son, will experience his first White Out on Sept. 27 when Penn State welcomes his sibling's alma mater. He's seen glimpses of previous White Outs on YouTube but is mostly having to rely on his teammates for a preview of what to expect. "I've asked everybody, to be honest," he said. "They've said there are no words. You can't describe it."
