48 ■ THE WOLFPACKER WHERE ARE THEY NOW? BY TIM PEELER or NCAA platform diving champion Kristin Davies, tim- ing has always been critically important to a life plan that recently has come full circle. As a youth growing up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Davies always wanted to be a competitive gym- nast, but a late growth spurt left her too tall for the bars and the mats. Instead, she translated her moves to the springboards and 10-meter platform, despite a lifelong fear of heights. Davies enrolled at her hometown Uni- versity of Manitoba, but her family had a hard time paying for both her tuition and diving club dues. She took a job in retail sales just to keep her diving dreams alive. Davies had the opportunity to transfer to NC State on an athletic scholarship in 2006 and chose to move to the United States, a decision that would change the start of her proposed career in sports psy- chology. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from NC State in 2009, then returned to Canada to do some coaching and begin her pursuit of a graduate degree in kinesiology and sports psychology. Being back at the pool however, rekindled her desire to dive. "I missed it too much, and I really wanted to try out for the [2012] Olympics," she said. 'Look, That's Mommy' Davies came up a little short on that dream. She finished up her graduate work and decided to take some time off to travel, something she hadn't been able to do since going to school in France as a young child. She went backpacking across Europe with a friend, and while on a four-month student visa, she met her future husband, Olivier Noiror, a high-level military of- ficer in the French army. She enrolled at Emlyon Business School in France to complete another master's degree in Davies captured the NCAA platform diving championship in 2009, compiling a career-high score of 339.65 in the final.
