MARCH 2026 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 13 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Abby Schulz has appeared in all nine games for Michigan in 2025-26, recording 2 goals on 3 shots playing the center position. Last season, she competed in 22 contests, scoring 5 goals. Here are some things about Schulz you may not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From Grand Rapids, Mich.: "I'm really proud to come from Grand Rapids. I'm one of very few that come out of Grand Rapids to play Division I water polo. I'm one of few from Michigan to represent at the Uni- versity of Michigan, and I take a lot of pride in that." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "The Dixboro Proj- ect." Best Meal She Can Cook By Herself: "I make a lot of teriyaki chicken with crispy rice." Favorite Professional Athlete: "[WNBA guard] Caitlin Clark is a big inspiration to me. I want to be a sports agent, and maybe be able to work for female athletes. She's a big reason why I want to get into that. I love watching her play, and she inspired me to watch women's basketball." Sport She Enjoys Besides Water Polo: "I was only ever a swimmer and then played water polo starting my freshman year of high school. Water polo is my entire life — I think it's the greatest sport — but other than that, I do really enjoy watching sports. I watch a lot of women's volleyball, a lot of women's basketball. I do enjoy watching football and the NBA, as well. I really like to educate myself on all of women's sports, and I've kind of watched an array. I've watched wom- en's tennis, as well. I can't even pick one because I dabble everywhere." Favorite Movie: "'Miracle on Ice.' We also got to watch it in The Big House as a team." Favorite TV Show: "'Modern Family.' It's my comfort show." Why She Chose Michigan: "We have a recruit in town right now, and I pretty much go on all the recruiting visits, because I love this school so much. I have zero problems speaking very highly of it. I had a really special opportunity to represent my own state inside of my state, and that's not an opportunity you really get for this sport when you're from the Midwest. And our resources and community here. My team always gave off a great vibe, and I wanted to be a part of that." What She Hopes To Do After Michigan: "I would have to go to law school to become a sports agent. I'm hoping I can play professional water polo for a couple years, and then come home and decide if I really do want to do law school and commit to those next couple years somewhere or if I want to explore coaching or do more brand representation, sales, stuff like that." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "I've done it twice now, running the stadium [steps] at The Big House once a year in the fall. Obviously, it's very hard and a lot of work, but to me it's every reason I chose Michigan. It also represents our school. It's so cool, it's gritty, but when I'm running the stadium, I've thought about my experience here at Michigan and what this means to me and the opportunity to run The Big House. The Big House is a big deal." Overall Experience At Michigan: "I texted this to my parents after my first week at Michigan — 'I hope my whole bloodline comes here.' My experience here has been phe- nomenal. A lot of that has to do with my team, the athletic department, the whole university." — Clayton Sayfie ❱  Getting To Know Water Polo Sophomore Abby Schulz Schulz graduated from East Grand Rapids High School and is the only in-state player on Michigan's water polo roster.
