C O M P enn State head coach Matt Camp- bell and assistant Jake Waters likely envisioned a different scenario for their quarterbacks room this spring. Rocco Becht, the Nittany Lions' redshirt senior signal-caller, has been working his way back from injuries to both shoulders that he sustained while at Iowa State last fall. His left (non- throwing) shoulder needed surgery in December, and while his opposite shoulder didn't require a trip to the operating room, he has been careful to avoid any potential setbacks in his re- covery this offseason. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman Alex Manske, the Nittany Lions' projected QB2, was also sidelined during spring practice after undergoing an unspecified medical procedure over the winter. The Algona, Iowa, native spent part of the spring at home recovering before return- ing to campus as the team was approach- ing the end of its practice sessions. Being without two of its six quarter- backs for much of spring practice pre- sented a challenge, but the situation was not without an upside. With Becht missing a portion of the team's offseason drills and Manske out of action for the duration, senior Connor Barry, redshirt junior Jack Lambert and true freshmen Peyton Falzone and Kase Evans received extra reps they likely wouldn't have got- ten otherwise.
