TRACKING THE PACK 16 ■ THE WOLFPACKER ■ Summer School NC State filled an urgent need in April when it hired Justin Gainey to take over the men's basketball program following Will Wade's abrupt departure. Now, all it needed was a team. Filling that urgent need was Gainey's responsibility, and he quickly went to work, signing nine transfers, a European player and a fresh- man recruit to accompany the Wolfpack's two returnees — junior guard Paul McNeil Jr. and redshirt freshman forward Zymicah Wilkins. Gainey has been working this summer to mold NC State's disparate parts into a co- hesive whole. On June 8, he met with players and delivered a hopeful message with an eye toward the season ahead. "It's going to be a great year, and I want you guys to enjoy every moment of it," he said. "I'll never say it's going to be easy. But anything worth achieving isn't easy, be- cause if it were easy, everybody would do it." — Matt Herb PHOTO COURTESY NC STATE ATHLETICS PACK PICTURE
