NC State filled an urgent need in April when it hired Justin Gainey to take over the
men's basketball program following Will Wade's abrupt departure.
Now, all it needed was a team. Filling that urgent need was Gainey's responsibility,
and he quickly went to work, signing nine transfers, a European player and a fresh-
man recruit to accompany the Wolfpack's two returnees — junior guard Paul McNeil
Jr. and redshirt freshman forward Zymicah Wilkins.
Gainey has been working this summer to mold NC State's disparate parts into a co-
hesive whole. On June 8, he met with players and delivered a hopeful message with
an eye toward the season ahead.
"It's going to be a great year, and I want you guys to enjoy every moment of it," he
said. "I'll never say it's going to be easy. But anything worth achieving isn't easy, be-
cause if it were easy, everybody would do it."
