The Nittany Lions' average of 141.7 yards per game on the ground ranked 90th nationally and 11th in the Big Ten. Their average of 4.07 yards per carry was 92nd nationally and ranked 12th in the conference. Penn State did not have a rusher among the top 20 in its 18-team conference in rushing yards per game. Following the Oct. 10 clash with USC, junior James Peoples, an Ohio State transfer, led the Lions with 52 carries for 232 yards and 2 touchdowns.
