20 OCT. 31, 2026 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED overthrew Faison on what should have been a 29-yard touchdown, which re- sulted in Notre Dame having to settle for a 46-yard field goal by junior kicker Spencer Porath. SECOND QUARTER BYU 21, NOTRE DAME 10 Top Moment: BYU's second touch- down of the game came on a trick play that saw Kasper throw to Bachmeier for a 15-yard score. It provided a resound- ing response to Notre Dame taking a 10-7 lead earlier in the second quarter. Feature Performer: BYU wide re- ceiver Legend Glasker started to make an impact on the game. He recorded his first 3 catches for 35 yards in the second quarter. He also picked up 11 yards on a reverse that nearly scored. Stats: BYU rushed for 69 yards in the second quarter after rushing for only 17 yards in the first quarter … BYU became the first team this season to score 14 points in a quarter against Notre Dame. Michigan State had the previous high of 10. Items: Carr committed a fumble on Notre Dame's final play of the second quarter when he attempted to spike to stop the clock. BYU recovered the fumble, which prevented the Irish from scoring to end the half. THIRD QUARTER BYU 21, NOTRE DAME 16 Top Moment: BYU forced Notre Dame to punt to end its first two possessions of the second half. Unfortunately for the Cougars, punt returner Cannon DeVries failed to secure freshman Jasper Scaife's second punt of the third quarter. Notre Dame freshman wide receiver Bubba Fra- zier fell on the muffed punt, which gave Notre Dame's offense possession and led to a 31-yard field goal by Porath. Feature Performer: Porath made sure Notre Dame didn't fully squander its final two drives of the third quarter. He made his second and third field goals of the game from 31 and 39 yards, respectively. Stats: The two teams combined for just 87 yards (51 for Notre Dame and 36 for BYU) in the quarter … Notre Dame failed to convert any of its five third- down attempts in the quarter. Items: An offensive pass interference penalty on Kasper wiped out a 39-yard touchdown reception for BYU wide re- ceiver Jojo Phillips. The Cougars were forced to punt two plays later. FOURTH QUARTER BYU 28, NOTRE DAME 24 Top Moment: Bachmeier delivered the winning touchdown on a 6-yard pass to tight end Walker Lyons on third- and-goal. Lyons beat freshman safety Joey O'Brien to work open and allow BYU to regain the lead for good. Feature Performer: Bachmeier willed his team to victory with a 10- play, 55-yard drive in which he either threw the ball (4 of 6 for 46 yards) or ran it himself (4 for 14 yards) on every play. Stats: Notre Dame senior wide re- ceiver Jaden Greathouse caught 4 passes for 76 yards … The Irish converted all 3 of their fourth-down attempts. Items: Notre Dame's final play as time expired was controversial on two fronts: cornerback Evan Johnson may have gotten away with pass interference on Greathouse and there appeared to be one second remaining on the clock when the pass fell incomplete. ✦ BYU sophomore quarterback Bear Bachmeier connected on 23 of 36 passes for 224 yards with 1 touchdown, had 13 carries for 45 yards and 2 scores, and even caught a 15-yard touchdown pass against the Irish.
