BLUEGOLDONLINE.COM OCT. 31, 2026 23 0-8 Record for Notre Dame against Asso- ciated Press top-10 opponents in true road games since its 30-13 win at No. 8 Oklahoma on Oct. 27, 2012, including the 28-24 loss at No. 8 BYU. Year Opponent Result 2013 No. 8 Stanford L, 27-20 2014 No. 2 Florida State L, 31-27 2017 No. 7 Miami L, 41-8 2019 No. 3 Georgia L, 23-17 2022 No. 2 Ohio State L, 21-10 2022 No. 5 Southern Cal L, 38-27 2025 No. 10 Miami L, 27-24 2026 No. 8 BYU L, 28-24 1st Red-zone turnover for Notre Dame since Nov. 1, 2025, happened at the end of the first half when, on the BYU 5-yard line, Irish junior quarterback CJ Carr lost control of the ball while trying to spike it to stop the clock. It was initially ruled that he threw the ball into the ground, but replay overturned the call on the field, ruling it a fumble and BYU ball. Prior to Carr's mishap against the Cougars, the last time the Irish turned it over in the red zone was a fumble by running back Jadarian Price at the 3-yard line in a 25-10 victory over Boston College in 2025. 3 Different ways BYU quarterback Bear Bach- meier contributed to touchdowns: 5- and 1-yard runs, a 15-yard reception from wide re- ceiver Kyler Kasper on a trick play and the game- winning 6-yard pass to tight end Walker Lyons. Bachmeier became the first BYU quarterback since Steve Young in the 1983 Holiday Bowl to record a passing, rushing and receiving touch- down in the same game. The last FBS signal-caller to achieve that trifecta was Texas' Arch Manning against Arkansas on Nov. 22, 2025. 4-6 All-time record for BYU against Associ- ated Press top-10 opponents in Provo, Utah, with the wins coming against No. 4 Air Force (28-21) in 1985, No. 1 Miami (28-21) in 1990, No. 9 Baylor (26-20 in 2OT) in 2022 and No. 2 Notre Dame (28-24) in 2026. During their previous visit to Provo as a top-10 team, the No. 3-ranked Fighting Irish routed the Cougars 45-20 in 1993. 5th Play of the game was when Notre Dame senior defensive end Boubacar Traore was ejected for targeting. Just two minutes and 24 seconds had come off the clock at that point, when Traore was flagged for a late and helmet-to-helmet hit against BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier after he completed a 2-yard pass just past midfield. The Cougars went on to score a touchdown on their opening drive and the Irish had to play the rest of the game without their star defensive end. 11 Points Notre Dame trailed BYU by at half- time, its third-largest halftime deficit un- der head coach Marcus Freeman. Only Clemson in 2023 (15) and Ohio State in the national champi- onship game following the 2024 season (14) built larger leads at the break. 16 -Game streak of double-digit victories by Notre Dame was snapped with its 28-24 loss at BYU. It is tied for the third-longest such streak in the Associated Press poll era (since 1936). Georgia (1945-46) and Texas (1968-69) also had 16-game streaks, while Miami won 17 straight by double digits from 2000-01 and Army won 21 straight from 1944-46. 87 Rushing yards for BYU against Notre Dame in the first half. Coming into the game, the highest single-game total allowed by the Irish was 77 yards versus North Carolina Oct. 3. The Cougars finished with 121 rushing yards. BY THE NUMBERS BY STEVE DOWNEY 8 Receptions for 125 yards for senior wide receiver JADEN GREATHOUSE. The catch total is a new career high, eclipsing the previous mark of 7 against Penn State in the Col- lege Football Playoff semifinals at the Orange Bowl in January 2025. The 125 yards were the most he amassed in a game since setting his career high of 128 against Ohio State in the CFP national cham- pionship game in January 2025. PHOTO BY CHAD WEAVER
