BLUEGOLDONLINE.COM OCT. 31, 2026 27 BYU cornerback Jayven Williams covered up the loose football while most of the players gave up on the play, and that created a costly turnover for the Irish. Rather than Porath attempting a chip shot to end the half, BYU was able to kneel out the clock. "It's a crucial, crucial play," head coach Marcus Freeman said. "Again, I've never seen it happen with us. Maybe it just happened in other places, but we can't allow that to happen. "…We don't have ball security. They call it a fumble. And so, we've got to continue to rep that until we can't get it wrong. We can't allow a play like that to end the half with zero points when you have the ball inside the plus-5." At least Notre Dame managed to put a throw into the end zone on the final play of the game, but senior wide receiver Jaden Greathouse didn't have a great chance of making a play with corner- back Evan Johnson draped all over him, perhaps illegally. That final possession may have looked much different if Notre Dame had taken advantage of its oppor- tunities earlier in the game. "That was what we felt was the best check to the field-side pressure that we were getting," Freeman said. "It didn't work." — Tyler James BYU INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS Rushing Att. Gain Lost Net Avg.
