This is not easy for me to do, but in fairness to our football team, this is the way it is going to be. "I'll be happy to answer any questions anybody has about football." Although numerous players from the past claim they were severely misrepresented or misquoted in the book, or come to the defense of Holtz and his staff, one other question looms at the end of the press conference: How will Notre Dame be able to overcome this major distraction? 5 Years Ago: Sept. 1, 2008 On the heels of a 3-9 season — the most losses ever in one year at Notre Dame — and signing the nation's No. 2-rated recruiting class (behind Alabama), eight freshmen are listed on the two deep prior to the Sept. 6 opener against San Diego State. Headlining the pack is Kyle Rudolph, who would become the first freshman tight end to start an opener at Notre Dame. Not only did the Irish gradu- ate second-round pick John Carlson, but sophomore Mike Ragone suffered a season-ending knee injury. Others on the twodeep depth chart on offense are wide receiver Michael Floyd, right guard Trevor Robinson and center/short snapper Braxston Cave.
