football recruiting Jashon Cornell OLB • 6-4, 245 pounds Saint Paul, Minn. (Cretin-Derham Hall) 247Sports Rankings: Four stars, No. 19 prospect in the nation, No. 2 outside linebacker in the land and No. 1 player in Minnesota. The Skinny: Notre Dame likes where it stands with the impressive defensive lineman, and there's a good shot that he could be an Irish commitment prior to the end of this upcoming season. He will see Notre Dame play Michigan in Ann Arbor Sept. 7 and then be on campus for the Notre Dame-USC game Oct. 19. Justin Hilliard OLB • 6-2, 225 pounds Cincinnati (St. Xavier) 247Sports Rankings: Four stars, No. 43 prospect in the nation, No. 4 outside linebacker in the country and No. 1 recruit in Ohio. The Skinny: Hilliard's brother CJ, a 2014 recruit, committed to Iowa June 6 and instantly gave the Hawkeyes the edge for the younger brother. Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State seem to be the major competitors for Iowa, but the Hawkeyes lead. Kendall Sheffield CB • 5-11, 180 pounds Missouri City, Texas (Fort Bend Marshall) 247Sports Rankings: Four stars, No. 40 prospect in the country, No. 3 cornerback in the nation and No. 6 player in Texas. The Skinny: Getting Sheffield out of Texas will be a daunting task. Notre Dame offered May 14, but Texas A&M and Texas had already offered by then and relationships had been established. Look for him to end up an Aggie. Iman Marshall CB • 6-1, 186 pounds Long Beach, Calif. (Long Beach Poly) 247Sports Rankings: Four stars, No. 41 prospect in the nation, No. 4 cornerback in the land and No. 6 player in California. The Skinny: "I know that you can get a great education at Notre Dame, and they have a great fan base," said Marshall upon receiving an offer from the Irish on May 9. Most expect him to stay out west and play for USC or UCLA, but Marshall knows a lot more about the Irish program than most West Coast recruits. Look for him to visit South Bend for a game this season. Tyrek Cole CB • 5-10, 170 pounds Hollywood, Fla. (Miramar) 247Sports Rankings: Four stars, No. 62 prospect in the nation, No. 7 cornerback in the country and No. 10 recruit in Florida. The Skinny: Alford is all over Cole and would love to land the talented cornerback, but the odds are against him. Many recruiting experts expect Cole to sign with Florida, Florida State or Miami in the end. Tarvarus McFadden CB • 6-2, 180 pounds Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (American Heritage) 247Sports Rankings: Four stars, No. 147 prospect in the nation, No. 11 cornerback in the country and No. 20 player in Florida. The Skinny: McFadden will give Notre Dame a look and will probably visit at some point, but he will most likely head to the SEC and play for LSU, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee or South Carolina. Kendrell McFadden S • 6-3, 187 pounds Hollywood, Fla. (McArthur) 247Sports Rankings: Four stars, No. 81 prospect in the nation, No. 5 safety in the country and No. 11 player in Florida. The Skinny: Florida State is going to be tough to beat for McFadden. If the Seminoles don't land him, look for LSU or Miami to be his college choice. Notre Dame is in his top 10, but that is probably as close as the Irish get. ✦
