After dropping four spots to No. 11 following an unimpressive 27-12 win at home versus Northwestern,
Notre Dame is installed as a nine-point underdog at No. 3 Michigan.
The Fighting Irish answer with a 43-yard touchdown run off the option by senior quarterback Kevin
McDougal on the game's first possession. After a 56-yard punt return for a touchdown by Mike Miller,
McDougal adds an 11-yard scoring run for a 24-10 halftime lead in the 27-23 Irish triumph. McDougal
finishes with 208 yards passing (12 completions in 21 attempts) and 66 yards rushing.
The Notre Dame team gives head coach Lou Holtz — who is lambasted in the recently published book
Under The Tarnished Dome: How Notre Dame Sold Its Soul For Football Glory — a victory ride off the field.
