While a 4-2 record at the midway point is not what the program had scripted during the offseason after a trip to the BCS National Champion‑ ship Game, Kelly and the players ex‑ pressed confidence that they are en‑ tering the second half of the season on the up tick. The Irish follow up a bye week with a visit from archrival USC Oct. 19 in Notre Dame Stadium's lone night game of 2013. "I just think it's huge to get a win on a bye week," senior cornerback and captain Bennett Jackson said. "You don't want to sit on a loss for two weeks. I'm just glad that both sides were balanced today. The offense was able to rely on us in certain situations, and we were able to rely on the offense in certain situations. "We just came together as a team and made big plays. I feel like that's really important going into the bye week, and it's just going to continue to build." ✦
