this month in uva history ◆ Dec. 31, 1984 — The Cavaliers played in their first-ever bowl game and recorded a 27‑24 win over Purdue in the Peach Bowl. ◆ Dec. 22, 1979 — Hall of Fame center Ralph Sampson set the single-game school record with 12 blocks in No. 12 UVa's 84‑60 win over Army. ◆ Dec. 11, 1971 — Two-time All-American guard Barry Parkhill tallied a program-record 51 points in a 117-83 victory over Baldwin-Wallace.
