"If they're open and they have rhythm, they'll take it with confidence." Of course, replacing Evans' defensive prowess won't be easy. Adjusting to Bennett's "Pack-Line" scheme has been known to take some time. "There are certain spots you have to be in," Hall said. "It's definitely something new and something you get exposed on a lot, but I've been getting the hang of it," Perrantes added. With the addition of Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Notre Dame, the ACC figures to be tougher than it's been in years. Throw in early-season non-conference games with VCU, Davidson, Wisconsin and Tennessee, and Virginia's strength of schedule shouldn't be coming into question like it did last season. "This year's schedule is strong on paper. We are away from home more, but you do not know until the season how good teams are going to be," Bennett said. "We have tried to be purposeful in who we choose to play and where we play them by challenging ourselves to get ready for our conference, which the new additions take it to another level. "We will have to be up for every game, and that is a little daunting. I think it's important to find out where you are early to prepare you for the rigors of ACC play." Virginia players are setting the bar high. "I think the expectation for us, just to start out, is to make the [NCAA[ Tournament — that's just like the base level," Nolte said. "We just have such good chemistry this year. I think we'll do some great things." "I think we know that we have the potential to be good," Mitchell added. "But as far as the outside expectations, we don't really look at that. We know that we have a long ways to go before we can be really good. "It sounds cliché, but we're taking it one practice at a time, one game at a time. I think if we have that mindset, we'll be as good as we can be." ◆ 11/5/13 2:18 PM
