Event Recaps VAF Charlottesville Luncheon The Virginia Athletics Foundation started the event season for the 2013-14 academic year with a Charlottesville Luncheon on September 10. VAF members, student-athlete alumni and UVa fans in the Charlottesville and surrounding areas enjoyed an opportunity to gather at the John Paul Jones Arena and hear from several guest speakers. Craig Littlepage and Dirk Katstra provided athletics and fundraising updates. "Voice of the Cavaliers" Dave Koehn emceed the main program, which featured a Q&A session with Coaches Tony Bennett and Dom Starsia. Each shared insights into the upcoming men's basketball and men's lacrosse seasons, respectively. Thank you to all VAF members and fans who were able to attend this event. Your generosity and support is overwhelming. 2013 Men's Tennis National Championship Team Celebration On Friday, September 6, the 2013 Men's Tennis National Championship team was honored for their spring 2013 ACC and National Championship titles. Virginia Athletics and the Virginia Athletics Foundation co-hosted a dinner and ring ceremony for the team and coaches. Many men's tennis alumni and donors to the program attended the event to share their support and enthusiasm. Welcomed by Dirk Katstra and Craig Littlepage, the program featured 2013 season and championship highlight videos, special remarks by head coach Brian Boland and assistant coach Andres Pedroso and appreciative comments by two team captains. The evening concluded with the presentation of the rings and photo opportunity. Coach Boland was thrilled to celebrate with his team and share their excitement with alumni and donors. As he reflected on their memorable experience he commented, "Our National Championship Banquet was such a great forum to say thank you to everyone involved with our men's tennis program over the past thirteen years. There is no question that our success during the past decade or so would not have been possible without the personal investment of our former players, current players, coaches, administrators, donors, fans and alumni. As I mentioned in my speech, it certainly has 'taken a village' and we are so thankful to share our success with such a supportive, loyal and dedicated UVa men's tennis family. The fact that many of our former players came back to celebrate the NCAA Title with us meant the world to the current players, my family and me. They laid the foundation of professionalism, competitiveness and camaraderie for our program and they deserve as much credit as anyone for what our program is accomplishing today." i3-6.VAF.indd 9 11/5/13 3:57 PM
