RECRUITING PSU hosts top underclassmen RYA N   S N Y D E R Penn State's game against Nebraska next week is setting up to be another huge recruiting weekend for the Nittany Lion coaching staff. Saturday's matchup against Purdue, however, still drew a solid crowd of roughly 50 prospects. As in previous games this season, the recruiting turnout predominantly consisted of underclassmen and some "runon" targets. The top prospect in attendance is still a sophomore in high school. That is Daelin Hayes, an outside linebacker from St. Mary's high school in Orchard Lake, Mich. He made the trip with his family. Coaches are limited by the NCAA when contacting high school sophomores, but Hayes has gone out of his way to begin his recruitment early. He's already visited Michigan State, Michigan, Notre Dame and now Penn State. He attends the same school as did wide receiver Allen Robinson, so Ron Vanderlinden already has built a great relationship with St. Mary's head coach George Porritt and his staff. It's still early, but many believe Hayes has four-star potential. There were also three Class of 2015 prospects in attendance who could earn a Penn State offer this spring. One of whom is offensive lineman James Daniels from Warren G. Harding in Warren, Ohio, who camped with Mac McWhorter and the Nittany Lion staff over the summer. Depending on what happens with the handful of interior offensive linemen whom Penn State has already offered, Daniels could potentially be one of the next few linemen to earn a scholarship offer. He currently holds eight verbal offers, including Iowa, Michigan State and West Virginia. On the other side of the ball, defensive end Jonathan Holland from the Bullis School in Potomac, Md., is another name to watch closely this spring. Illinois, Pittsburgh and West Virginia have already offered, and once his junior film gets to a few more schools, that list is expected to grow quickly. Holland is also an n o V e m b e R | blue white illustRated excellent fit for any program in the class room. He already owns a small shaved ice business with his brother. Their intentions were to raise enough money to put their sister through college. David Ryslik, who attends the Peddle School in Highstown, N.J., is a defensive tackle prospect whom Penn State will watch. At 6-foot-4, 280 pounds, Ryslik's physical build is impressive for having more than 15 months to go before he can sign his letter of intent. Scouts will be watching him closely during the spring evaluation period. His mix of athleticism and strength is ahead of most defensive tackle prospects his age. Duke recently became his first school to offer a scholarship, but Penn State, Ohio State, Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee have shown serious interest since receiving his midseason film in October.
