fan forum If Jaylon Smith makes the Freshman AllAmerica team, Notre Dame would be the lone school we know of that would have a "true" Freshman All-American three years in a row: Aaron Lynch (2011), KeiVarae Russell (2012) and now maybe Smith. If they have earned the right to play, they'll see the field. The running back situation can be perplexing at times, but like you said there are several good ones and the staff wants to use all of them for their specific strengths. Because BYU was so strong at outside linebacker, there was less of an emphasis to run outside (George Atkinson III's forte, finishing with six carries for 42 yards) and more in between the tackles, which are the strengths of Cam McDaniel (24 carries for 117 yards) and Tarean Folston (13 carries for 78 yards). In other weeks, it might be different, depending on the game plan. You don't have to agree with it, and it's certainly your right to second-guess. We're not ashamed to acknowledge that the staff knows a lot more than we do. The defense has been a disappointment on occasion, but shined in slugfests against good Michigan State (17-13) and USC teams (14-10), while also performing very well against a potent Arizona State team. The defense has had its share of injuries and attrition, but also has underperformed on occasion. Pitt-iful Pitiful, pitiful, pitiful. Sorry, sorry, sorry. There is more desire to win within the walls of this house than there is at Notre Dame. Please print this. Do you have enough guts? Lt. Cmdr Leonard R. Previto, USN Ret. Montgomery, Ala. Mr. Previto, for some reason we don't think having the guts to print this will get us a section in the next "Profiles In Courage" documentary. From The WebSite BlueandGold.com regular J_Law expressed the following sentiments after Notre Dame's 23-13 Senior Day win versus BYU: "I know there's a lot of fretting about Brian Kelly and the staff and where we should or shouldn't be; I share some of those concerns. But the one thing I like about the way this program is building is that, unlike a Brady Hoke or Lane Kiffin, Kelly didn't have that 10-11, BCS-type season right off the bat. This team has had to scratch and claw for every win it's gotten. "They've made it more difficult than it needed to be in many cases, but I believe that, in the end, the program is better for it because each graduating class adds a little more to the growth of the program. As Kelly said, this senior class, while maddeningly inconsistent, did enough of the little things right to go 11-1 at home the past two years and 20-4 overall with a couple of more games left."
