fan forum If Jaylon Smith makes the Freshman AllAmerica team, Notre Dame would be the lone school we know of that would have a "true" Freshman All-American three years in a row: Aaron Lynch (2011), KeiVarae Russell (2012) and now maybe Smith. If they have earned the right to play, they'll see the field. The running back situation can be perplexing at times, but like you said there are several good ones and the staff wants to use all of them for their specific strengths. Because BYU was so strong at outside linebacker, there was less of an emphasis to run outside (George Atkinson III's forte, finishing with six carries for 42 yards) and more in between the tackles, which are the strengths of Cam McDaniel (24 carries for 117 yards) and Tarean Folston (13 carries for 78 yards). In other weeks, it might be different, depending on the game plan. You don't have to agree with it, and it's certainly your right to second-guess. We're not ashamed to acknowledge that the staff knows a lot more than we do. The defense has been a disappointment on occasion, but shined in slugfests against good Michigan State (17-13) and USC teams (14-10), while also performing very well against a potent Arizona State team.
