Golden Anniversary Hiring
This past Nov. 22, Americans remembered the 50th anniversary
of John F. Kennedy's assassination, or the end of "Camelot" to
some. Twenty-two days later — Dec. 14, 1963 — another version of
Camelot began at the University of Notre Dame with the hiring of
Ara Parseghian, shown here shortly thereafter with athletics director Ed "Moose" Krause, right, as the new head football coach. After
Notre Dame's 34-45 record from 1956-63, including 2-7 in 1963,
Parseghian would post a 95-17-4 career mark with nine top-five finishes in 11 seasons, and consensus national titles in 1966 and 1973.
