Seniors Lo Wood and Alex Welch
plan to finish their careers elsewhere

T
wo Notre Dame fifthyear senior candidates for 2014, tight end
Alex Welch and cornerback Lo Wood, are planning to use their fifth
season of eligibility at
other schools.
Both Welch and Wood
are scheduled to receive
their undergraduate degrees this December, and
that will make them eligible to play in 2014 elsewhere without sitting
out a season because of
recent NCAA graduate
student transfer rules.
Recent Irish players
to take advantage of
that rule after graduating from Notre Dame
included three in 2012
at Kansas (quarterback
Dayne Crist, tight end
Mike Ragone and linebacker Anthony McDonald), two at Massachusetts (wide receiver
Deion Walker and de-
Wood has played in 31 games, made 19 tackles and intercepted one
pass that he returned for a score for Notre Dame the past four years,
but will use his fifth season of eligibility in 2014 at a school closer to
his home in Florida.
