fan forum ter. He blew the Pitt game. He came out throwing against an undersized Oklahoma team, one you could run on, and went down 14-0. If he had a strong running game, utilized Rees under center more, and limited him to 20-25 passes per game (like Kevin Hogan at Stanford), he could have had a very good year. Kudos and all my appreciation to Tommy Rees. That guy is gutty, inspirational, and he is very good too. He just wasn't utilized right. My confidence in the coach is highly shaken. I just don't see the right decisions being made. Tom Johnson Philadelphia From The WebSite Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Chuck Martin's departure to become the head coach at Miami (Ohio) was received mainly with inquiries of whether the offense will improve its production: Irishm: We must lead college football in getting a play off just before we get a penalty. Is that because Tommy Rees is so smart that he is making adjustments that other QBs don't see and it takes longer? Is it ND's system? Will Everett Golson be quicker? Will the new offensive coordinator be quicker? Probably not if it is a man from inside the program. Do we give the impression of being disorganized or amateurish when we go to the one-second mark so often before hiking the ball? Or does it matter? Gulinias: I think the idea this year was to make sure we were aligned properly, and they could maximize Tommy's strong point in that area. Ciggles: What good does Everett Golson's advanced skillset do us when we don't have a play called with 10 seconds left on the play clock? And this assumes Golson's wiring between the ears has/will advance from his 2012 sample set. Hodges: I really don't think it's so much on Rees as it is getting the play called from the sideline. Rees' strengths are reading the defense and adjusting the play for it. He usually gets that done within 10 seconds — so what's the issue the other 25-30? Coachcft: I'm not usually critical of something that falls under the umbrella of a coach's responsibilities. Yet this is one of the areas I have been critical of at point this year: The Pre-Snap. My guess is that next year, whoever our QB is, he'll be less able to check into certain plays (or be given less leeway), and we will truly see how "fast" we play. I'm betting on more of a "call it and haul it" system will be implemented. But I look for the ability to audible to be taken away, barring emergency situations. Guiness: We had the same issues last season with Golson. Play clock was always low when the ball was snapped. Jimbo Makovici: I long for the day when we adjust nothing. Line up and win the battle, damn it. OklaDomer: We were lucky to have a QB that could identify rushes, blitz packages and, for the most part, DB coverage. Risksorter: It's been four years, and maybe it all comes together next year with a more mature Golson. But, then, I have been disappointed every season with the general tone of the offense, and maybe the big surprise is that there won't be one to the upside.
