He became the sixth different Notre Dame player to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving in a season — and the fourth since 2005. Prior to 2005, the only two Irish receivers to surpass 1,000 yards were Tom Gatewood in 1970 (1,123) and Jack Snow in 1964 (1,114) during 10-game seasons. Since then, Jeff Samardzija (2005-06), Golden Tate (2008-09) and Michael Floyd (2010-11) have done it twice apiece, with Tate's school-record 1,496 yards in 2009 earning him the Biletnikoff Award. 46 Ranking of University of Notre Dame junior righthanded pitcher Pat Connaughton among 2014 draft-eligible players by Perfect Game in the publication's post-fall college top-50 list that was released Nov. 25. A starter also for the basketball team, Connaughton, was 4-2 last season for the Irish with a 1.71 ERA in 10 starts after finishing up the 2012-13 hoops season. The Arlington, Mass., native was drafted in the 38th round of the 2011 MLB FirstYear Player Draft by the San Diego Padres.
