Under the Dome Brian Kelly: Everett Golson To Be Readmitted Dec. 13 Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson was expected to be officially readmitted to the unveristy Dec. 13, according to head coach Brian Kelly. He then would begin attending classes at the start of the second semester Jan. 13-14. "That information has been provided to admissions," Kelly said in an interview with ESPN in early December. "It's just a matter of them sending out the admittance letter." In an interview this fall with Sports Illustrated, Golson acknowledged he was dismissed from school last May for academic cheating — "something like that," he admitted — but remained steadfast about returning to Notre Dame. The Myrtle Beach, S.C., native will not participate in any bowl practices. He would not be eligible to begin practicing until after the first semester ends at Notre Dame (Dec. 20), and he also cannot practice at the bowl site in New York, where the Irish will be by Dec. 23. "We're just not going to have the time and place to get him in to practice," said Kelly, who indicated he was scheduled to meet with Golson Dec. 9 in Myrtle Beach. The Irish head coach said he respected how forthright Golson's application for readmission at Golson has been. the school was approved, and he will begin "Quite frankly, I thought [it was]maybe a little bit too attending classes at the start of the second revealing," said Kelly of the SI interview Golson had. "He talked about some things that I probably wouldn't have semester Jan. 13-14. photo by bill panzica talked about. But I think he took it straight on and never backed away from coming back to Notre Dame. … I think he's been a stand-up guy in this whole process." While Golson's training with quarterbacks guru George Whitfield Jr. in California this fall was beneficial, Kelly said this isn't about just improving his mechanics. "I think we're going to get a better person and someone that's even more committed," Kelly said. "He's going to be so much more committed to being a better student, more committed to everything that he does." With incumbent Tommy Rees graduating, the lone scholarship quarterbacks on the 2014 Irish roster might be Golson, current freshman Malik Zaire and incoming recruit DeShone Kizer — which Kelly can live with for now. "Four quarterbacks on scholarship is heavy," Kelly said. "But circumstances sometimes put you in that position, and the circumstances might be that you've inherited quarterbacks that have scholarships already. "But if you're working through a natural progression, three and a preferred walk-on would suit me just fine."
