Hoge chose the Irish over offers from California, Duke, Florida, LSU, North Carolina, Northwestern, Oregon State, Penn State, Stanford, UCLA, Utah, Washington and Washington State. "It's a big decision for me and it's a huge day for me," Hoge said. "It's definitely a huge opportunity for me and it's another step I'm taking. Knowing that I'm committed to such a prestigious program like Notre Dame gives me chills. There is so much tradition and history here. I just can't believe it. "The campus was everything I wanted. Notre Dame is like a second home to me, and I'm just ready to get focused, work hard, get there and get to work." Hoge has already been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January 2015 following his senior season at Highland High School. It's an opportunity that caught him off guard and an invitation that he accepted immediately. "I can't wait to play in that game," he said. "Just being around all of those great players and competing for an entire week will be a blessing. It's going to make me a better player, and it will be great to represent Notre Dame on a national stage like that. Plus, being around all the military men and women will be great, and it really puts things into perspective." During his junior season, Hoge finished with 77 pancake blocks and helped lead his team to a 12-1 record. Hoge is the nephew of current ESPN analyst and former NFL running back Merril Hoge. In eight NFL seasons, Hoge played for the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers before retiring from the game in 1994. ✦ Authentic Notre Dame Helmets by Authentic "Speed" Full-Size Display Helmets Riddell's ND "Speed" helmet features a large-size shell, special-order facemask worn by most of the star players who choose to wear the Speed, internal padding reflective of the "Speed Classic" design, and 4-pt. chinstrap.
