right now is including all three of his primary guards along with Sherman and junior forward Pat Connaughton. "I don't want him to get ahead of himself," Brey said. "Coming in, being an energy guy for us, I'd love to see him drive it more. He probably gets too many three-point shots, not that he can't shoot it, but he's probably more of a one-dribble, mid-range guy or get to the hole and get fouled to make a play. He is really patient about his development." Right now, that's just fine with Jackson and Brey. Irish Fall At Iowa, Defend Homecourt Notre Dame recorded home wins against Cornell (101-67 Dec. 1), Delaware (80-75 Dec. 7) and Bryant (70-59 Dec. 9), but lost at Iowa (98-93 Dec. 3) in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge as nonconference play picked up for the 7-2 Irish. Senior guard Jerian Grant has found a consistent presence in the Irish backcourt after following up solid games with poor ones so many times earlier in his career. To date, he reached the 20-point plateau in five of the nine games and even helped the Irish notch the victory over Bryant with his defense as well. Against Delaware, Grant missed the front end of a one-and-one that could have cost the Irish when protecting a one-point lead late, but he redeemed himself by sinking a pair of jumpers on the next two possessions to help Notre Dame pull out the win. Fifth-year senior center Garrick Sherman has developed into the un- disputed leader of the frontcourt for head coach Mike Brey. He recorded a career-high 29 points and also grabbed nine rebounds in the loss at Iowa before scoring 19 and 14 points against Delaware and Bryant, respectively. He added 13 rebounds to the stat sheet against Bryant to notch his first-career double-double. Junior forward Pat Connaughton easily ranked second on the team in rebounds with 7.2 per contest and recorded three double-digit rebounding performances in four games in early December. Brey said he wouldn't be able to start the three guards if Connaughton did not have such a presence on the boards. ✦ 2013-14 Results/ Upcoming Schedule Date Opponent (TV) Result/Time (ET) Nov. 8 Miami (Ohio) W, 74-62 Nov. 10 Stetson W, 80-49 Nov. 17 Indiana State L, 83-70 Nov. 22 Santa Clara W, 84-69 Nov. 24 Army W, 93-60 Dec. 1 Cornell W, 101-67 Dec. 3 at Iowa^ L, 98-93 Dec. 7 Delaware!
