basketball recruiting in a 68-34 win over Gulf Coast Jan. 10; registered 20 points on 8-of12 shooting in a win over Ida Baker Jan. 13; notched 17 points, making 8 of 9 shots, in a 61-22 win over Oasis Jan. 14; and scored 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting, while adding six rebounds and five blocked shots in a 49-37 win over Barron Collier Jan. 15. However, Doyle struggled against the stiffest competition he faced this season, coming at the beginning of 2014. Nola.com reported, "The tandem of University Lab's Wayde Sims and D.J. White proved to be too much for Bishop Verot as the duo combined for 32 points in the Cubs' 51-30 victory in the second round of the fourth annual Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic. "They provided enough offensive firepower in their showdown with Bishop Verot standout Ricky Doyle [4 of 18], who without the support of his teammates could not keep pace with University Lab's talented frontcourt tandem." "Doyle was averaging almost 30 points per game, and the next player was averaging 12, and then there was a drop-off," University Lab head coach Joe Spencer said. "Taking him out of the game was the strategy in this game." Doyle scored 11 of his team's 15 firsthalf points on his way to 21. "He is a highly skilled player, so we're lucky we had two guys to rotate on and off of them," Spencer said. "For the most part it worked, but he's a great scorer. I was glad with what we did." Doyle and fellow 2014 U-M pledge Kameron Chatman (6-7, Rivals.com's No. 29 overall player nationally) were both recently nominated as candidates for the McDonald's AllAmerica Game. Chatman, now with Portland (Ore.) Columbia Christian, was outstanding in a late December tournament in Palm Springs, Calif., Rivals.com's Eric Bossi reported, while Sacramento (Calif.) Capital Christian's D.J. Wilson (6-9, No. 135), Michigan's third 2014 signee, also caught his eye. "One of the most cerebral players in the country, Chatman showed off all of his high-end hoops IQ and skill level while scoring 28 points in a hardfought, low-scoring affair," Bossi reported. "By the way, he was responsible for two game-winning plays in the process. "A dangerous player in the midrange, Chatman is money with the turnaround 15-footers and pull-up jumpers, and his passing 12 to 17 feet from the hoop is exquisite. That passing was evident at the end of regulation with his team trailing by one; he could have forced a contested 18-footer but instead zipped a pass through traffic to an open teammate under the hoop. His teammate couldn't convert the bunny but did get fouled with 0.7 seconds left and made one of two to send the game to overtime. In OT, Chatman sank a 22-footer from the right wing with less than two seconds to go to give his team the win. "Players make plays, that's a given. But what was so impressive about Chatman's two game-winning plays
