After dropping a tight 3-2 decision to Western Michigan in the opening game, U-M looked to salvage the weekend when it met nemesis Michigan State. The Spartans came into the game 5-9-2 overall and 0-2-2 in their last four while averaging 2.31 goals per game and allowing 4.75 markers per contest. The Wolverines played feebly against MSU, though, failing to score on 29 shots while surrendering three goals on 40 attempts. MVP — None: The Wolverines scored five total goals during their four-game skid, with Luke Moffatt responsible for two and the rest of his teammates going into hiding. Defensively, U-M's blue liners were a collective minus-20 in plus/ Sophomore forward Boo Nieves has suffered through a 15-game scoring drought, and has just one goal and seven assists in 18 contests. photo by lon horwedel
