early in the second half of Michi-
gan's one-point loss to Ohio State,
quarterback Devin Gardner would
go on to complete 19 of 28 attempts
(67.9 percent) for 182 yards and three
touchdowns, while rushing for nine
yards on four carries. Gardner man-
aged those numbers despite suf-
fering an injury during the play in
which he fumbled so severe that four
weeks later he was forced to sit out
the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl against
Kansas State.
"It was probably the worst pain
of my life," Gardner said. "It didn't
feel good at all. I had to start walking
on the side of the foot. It felt really
