MICHIGAN RECRUITING nation's best. Orange Park (Fla.) Oak- leaf linebacker Shaquille Quarterman may be slightly undersized at just 6-0, but his 240 pounds and excel- lent instincts allow him to be an ex- ceptional inside linebacker. Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee are among the other schools also in the mix at this early stage. The Wolverines have also offered two defensive tackles, and that should be a position of need follow- ing a 2015 class where they're not projected to land anyone at that po- sition. Rashan Gary of Scotch Plains- Fanwood in Scotch Plains, N.J., and Dexter Lawrence of Wake Forest- Rolesville in Wake Forest, N.C., are the two players already sporting Michigan offers. Gary's offer list is slightly more expansive at this point, but both are hearing from some of the country's top programs. Michigan has been one of the stin- giest power conference programs in the country when it comes to issu- ing offers (their final 2014 tally of 106 was barely more than a third of Tennessee's nation-leading 297, for example), but the 2016 offer sheet is sure to continue building. Those who already hold offers, however, appear to be the top Maize and Blue targets at this stage. FIRST 2017 OFFERS ISSUED Michigan's coaching staff is look- ing not just to the next couple classes — with four commits in the 2015 group and one in 2016, they're off to a good start — but even further into the future, as well. U-M's coaches have made three early offers in the 2017 class. The first player in that class to pick up a Michigan offer was Miamisburg (Ohio) offensive lineman Josh My- ers.
