F or the second year in a row, the Michigan athletic department has decided to change its football student section seating policy. The new policy is "an attendance- driven reserved seating plan that will assign students reserved season seat locations based on attendance points accumulated during the previous season," according to a release. The general-admission plan put into place for the 2013 season will be scrapped. The new plan is the latest in a se- ries of moves designed to get the stu- dent population to the games, in the face of dwindling numbers. Accord- ing to a report by ESPN.com's Dar- ren Rovell, an average of 26 percent of student section ticket holders did not show up to any given game last season, despite the fact that there was a 10 percent drop in the size of the section, down to 19,850 spots. In the new plan, students will be rewarded for loyalty and attendance. The reserved-seating plan will give favor to students who attended a lot of home games last year. After that, preference will be given to students based on seniority. According to a release by the uni- versity, these are the levels for the new reserved seat policy: 1. SuperFans: returning students who attended at least five games on time during the 2013 football season. 2. Returning seniors/graduate school students 3. Returning juniors Inside Michigan ATHLETICS Athletic Department Reworks Student Seating Policy In the new plan, students will be rewarded for loyalty and attendance, with favor given to those who attedned many of the home games last year.
