former and NFL Man of the Year dur- ing an 11-year career, highlighted by two Super Bowl titles. Livingstone led the 1942 team in re- ceiving and returns while also playing defense, served with distinction from 1943-45 in the South Pacific during World War II, and contributed to the 1946-47 national titles while playing offense and defense. His 92-yard TD run at USC in 1947 to help clinch the national title still remains the longest run from scrimmage in school history. In his final NFL season he recorded three interceptions. Toran was the 1983 captain with Kiel and a four-year starting corner who played five seasons in the NFL before dying in a vehicular accident at age 27. As a freshman, his impact was strong on the 1980 defense that set the school record for consecutive quarters not al- lowing a touchdown (23). Randy Harrison (1974-78) and Deke Cooper (Evansville, 1996-99) both re- ceive honorable mention notice. KICKING GAME: D.J. FITZPATRICK (GRANGER, 2002-05) Dave Reeve (1974-77, Bloomington) was the first kicker in Notre Dame his- tory to be awarded a scholarship as an incoming freshman and the four-year starter's 39 career field goals are third most at the school. Chuck Male (Misha- waka, 1978-79) started two years and his 4-of-4 effort on field goals at Michi- gan in the 12-10 win in 1979 was special. But the nod goes to Fitzpatrick be- cause he had the best field goal per- centage (.694, 34 of 49) and made many in the clutch. He also punted, averaging 40.0 yards on 166 attempts. Honorable mention to Jim Sexton (South Bend, 1988-91), who did quality work at punter for the 1988 national champs, particularly versus No. 1 Mi- ami and No. 2 USC. ✦ Muncie, Ind., native Luther Bradley, considered the greatest all-around Irish defensive back ever, finished his career with a school-record 17 interceptions.
