FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP Recruiting Notes With the recruiting process moving much faster these days, Notre Dame has already extended 48 scholarship offers to recruits from the class of 2016. Blue & Gold Illustrated takes a look at three junior prospects that hold offers from the Irish. • Notre Dame is hoping to continue its trend of recruiting well at the offensive line position with Cleve- land St. Ignatius offensive tackle Liam Eichenberg. The 6-6, 280-pounder was first offered by the Irish during his initial visit to campus March 29. "It's hard to match what the feeling is like at Notre Dame," Eichenberg said. "It's a really nice campus, the people are all really friendly and it's just beautiful. It's hard to top that." The five-star prospect returned to South Bend for the Irish Invasion camp June 20, and that's when sources first told Blue & Gold Illustrated that Notre Dame held the edge over Michigan and Ohio State. Per 247Sports, Eichenberg is the No. 7 overall player in the 2016 class, the nation's No. 2 offensive tackle and the No. 1 prospect in Ohio. • It's not often a recruit from the state of Florida grows up a fan of the Fighting Irish, but that's the case with Hollywood (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic four-star wide receiver Darnell Salomon. The 6-2, 175-pound recruit, who holds offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami and many others, added an offer from his childhood favorite May 13. "I was real shocked by it," Salomon said of his Notre Dame offer. "They've been sending me mail, but I wasn't expecting the offer. I was excited when my coach told me about it. "I'm a big Notre Dame fan. I like the other schools and I'm still wide open in my recruitment, but this is a big one for me. Football-wise and on the field, I'm a big Notre Dame fan. This offer puts them right up there for me." Per 247Sports, Salomon is the No. 47 overall player in the 2016 class, the No. 5 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 3 prospect in Florida. • The parents of Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller four-star tight end Jake Hausmann may have gone to Ohio State, but Notre Dame is heavily in the mix for the junior standout. The 6-5, 235-pound recruit first received an of- fer from the Irish May 21, and he told 247Sports national director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong how significant it was. "It's huge for me," Hausmann said. "I'm really, Hollywood (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic standout Darnell Salomon — 247Sports' No. 47 overall player and No. 5 wide receiver in the junior class — grew up a Notre Dame fan, and he has the Irish near the top of his list.
