Recognizing the " Who's Hoo" in UVa athletics — Cavalier student-athletes, past, present and future who are making news around the world of sports. Lizzy Youngling ◆ Rowing The native of Westport, Conn., was a part of the U.S. women's eight that won gold at the World Rowing Un- der-23 Championships in Varese, Italy, in late July. The four th-year has rowed on the ACC Crew of the Year in each of the last two seasons on the Cavs' varsity eight. Teammate Shawna Sims, an incoming rook ie, placed fifth as one-half of the U.S. women's light- weight double that recorded the highest American finish ever in the race at the event. Henry Coley ◆ Football When the first batch of the ACC's w e e k l y a w a r d s c a m e o u t , t h e fourth-year from Virginia Beach was named the league's Linebacker of the Week. He led the squad with 14 tackles, which tied a career best, and added a pair of sacks, one pass broken up and a forced fumble in the Cavaliers' impressive defensive effort during the 28-20 season- opening loss to then-No. 7 UCLA Aug. 30. The high-powered Bruins offense was limited to one offensive touchdown, while Virginia racked up 11 tackles for loss and five sacks behind Coley 's stellar effort. Tara Vittese ◆ Field Hockey The Cherry Hill, N.J., native is a key part of the Cav- aliers' outstanding rookie class and became the first Virginia first-year to be named to the Preseason All- ACC squad earlier this year. Vittese — the younger sister of former All-American Mi- chelle and 2013 All-ACC honoree Carissa, both of whom also played for the Cavaliers — was the lone first-year and only Cavalier listed on the squad, which is voted on by league coaches. She is a member of the current USA Field Hockey U-21 team, and was the Junior National Team's top scorer last year. Through four games, she had one goal and a team-best five assists for the No. 6 Cavs. Mike Marsella — Cross Country The second-year was named the first ACC Men's Cross Country Per- former of the Week after a strong 2014 debut at the UVa Duals. Mar- sella, a native of Hope Valley, R.I., was the top individual finisher in the 4K race at Panorama Farms with a time of 12:19. Both the men's and women's squads were tabbed to finish second in the ACC's preseason poll, while the men were listed 14th in the first national pre- season poll and the women checked in at No. 10. Leah Smith — Swimming The second-year won gold at the 2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Cham- pionships Aug. 22 in Gold Coast, Australia, as par t of the United States women's 4x200-meter free- style relay. The 2014 ACC Freshman of the Year and All-American swam the third leg on a squad that included a trio of Olympic gold medalists, and the group combined to set a Pan Pacific Cham- pionship record with a time of 7:46.40. It marked Smith's first senior international medal and the first gold for a woman from UVa at the event since 1997. hoo's hot
