and also got a huge surprise when three-star ath- lete Myles Robinson, a 5-11, 188-pound prospect from Olney (Md.) Our Lady of Good Counsel shocked many by ending his recruitment and com- mitting to the Cavaliers. What's even more interesting about Robinson's decision isn't just that he had offers from Michi- gan State, Ohio State and West Virginia, but that he hadn't visited Charlottesville in more than a year. "Myles Robinson is a great athlete," Friedman said. "There are a lot of things he can do well. He's been hampered by a hamstring injury during the offseason, but I expect him to come back this year and have a good senior season. He comes from a great program and I expect him to have a productive season and get back to his top speed. "I know Virginia has looked at him at defensive back and at wide receiver, but I would think he'd be a great guy to use in the slot. That's where he spends most of his time. But he does have that ability to flip over to defense, and if so safety is probably where I would project him to play." Robinson is ranked as the No. 23 player in Maryland by Rivals.com. The day after Robinson committed to UVa, the Hoos picked up two more commits when linebacker/defensive end Kareem McDonald and linebacker Jahvoni Simmons verbally pledged to the Cavaliers. McDonald, a 6-3, 220-pound two-star prospect from Washington (D.C.) Woodrow Wilson, chose UVa over Old Dominion and Toledo as well as interest from Maryland and Virginia Tech. Sim- mons, meanwhile, is a 6-0, 230-pound inside line- backer from Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes. "I'm looking for a big season out of him," Friedman said of Simmons, who is ranked as the No. 123 overall player nationally and the No. 6 inside linebacker in the country by Rivals.com.
