2 Consecutive regular-season games played by Notre Dame in ac- tive NFL stadiums after facing Purdue in Lucas Oil (Indianapolis Colts) Sept. 13 and Syracuse at MetLife (New York Jets and New York Giants) Sept. 27. The last time that happened was 1958 when Notre Dame defeated Navy 40-20 at Baltimore Memorial Stadium (Baltimore Colts) before losing 29-26 to Pittsburgh the next week at Pitt Stadium (Pittsburgh Steelers). 3 Notre Dame's hockey program was selected to finish third in the 12-team Hockey East Conference by its coaches Sept. 22 — one day after the media projected the Irish in a tie for seventh in the competitive league. Providence College was chosen to finish first (127 points) by the coaches while perennial superpower Boston College was second with 120 points. The Irish, with 94 points, are coming off a 23-15-2 overall mark in 2013-14 and were 9-9-2 in their first season in Hockey East. 6 Touchdown passes thrown by 2012 Notre Dame backup quar- terback Gunner Kiel in his debut at the University of Cincinnati during a 58-34 victory versus Toledo Sept. 12. That broke the NCAA record of five set by Florida's John Reaves (a future first-round pick) in his first college game in 1969. Kiel completed 25 of 37 passes for 418 yards — and two weeks later Sports Illustrated did a five-page spread on him. Kiel transferred to Cincinnati in the spring of 2013. $9.8 Billion pool value of Notre Dame's endowment ac- cording to a late-September report from Notre Dame vice president and chief investment officer Scott Malpass, per the South Bend Tribune. That was a 19.7 percent return from the previ- ous year's value of $8.3 billion. The Notre Dame Endowment is the 12th largest educational endowment in the country and the largest at a Catholic university. Its endowment pool grew from $3.5 billion to $9.8 billion over the last 10 years. 109 Points scored by Notre Dame football during its 3-0 start this season. The last time an Irish team started 3-0, tal- lied at least 30 points each time and scored more points than this year was head coach Frank Leahy's 1943 national champions that tallied 131. Since then, the only two other Notre Dame teams to score at least 30 points in the first three games were head coach Ara Parseghian's 1964 team (99) in his inaugural season and head coach Charlie Weis' final team in 2009 (102) — which included a 38-34 loss at Michigan.
