or only the second time in the
last 81 years, the 2014 Notre
Dame football team began the
season 3‑0 while scoring a mini‑
mum of 30 points each time.
On paper, the offense didn't seem
broken with its 36.3 scoring average.
In reality, head coach Brian Kelly and
his staff recognized it still needed
plenty of fixing. The house that was
the Fighting Irish offensive line wasn't
gutted, but it needed some rearrang‑
ing of furniture.
First it totaled only 54 yards rushing
and 1.7 yards per carry against Michi‑
gan Sept. 6, with no Irish running back
Reworking the line and enhancing the
ground game are the prime issues on offense
RECONSTRUCTION
Although the Irish got off to a 3-0 start, their rushing attack — which was 75th in the country at 158.0
yards per game — needs to improve for continued success.
