PREP PROFILES It's hard to find a more talented de- fensive back than Trayvon Mullen of Pompano Beach (Fla.) Coconut Creek. The 6-2, 175-pounder holds offers from Florida State, Michigan State, Ohio State, Alabama and many others. Notre Dame extended an offer to the class of 2016 recruit July 16. "It was a real big offer for me," Mul- len said. "I've al- ways wanted an of- fer from them. I like the way they run the program, and I love the way the Irish play defense. They're really ag- gressive. They al- ways put the cor- nerbacks in position to be successful." Mullen was able to catch some of the Notre Dame-Purdue game earlier this season. Needless to say, he liked the Shamrock Series uniforms. "Those things were tight, real fresh," Mullen said. "I like that they are Under Armour now. Those were pretty nice." The matchup between the Irish and Boilermakers wasn't the first time he saw Notre Dame play this season. Mul- len watched nearly all of the 31-0 vic- tory over Michigan Sept. 6. "Notre Dame just seems like a differ- ent team than last year," Mullen said. "They looked like an SEC team on de- fense. They were dominating Michigan, and it looked too easy." Due to his hectic high school sched- ule, Mullen doesn't plan on getting to South Bend this year. He will see the Irish play in person later this season. "I'll be at the Notre Dame-Flor- ida State game in Tallahassee," Mul- len said. "I'm look- i n g f o r w a rd t o seeing both those schools in person. It should be a good time." Ironically, the last time Mullen was in Tallahassee, Fla., he received word about his offer from the Fighting Irish. "I was at Florida State when I was told to call [Notre Dame running backs coach] Tony Alford," he said. "I figured the offer was coming, and he let me know that I had it. "Coach Alford keeps it real. He just lets me know that I can be a better player and person if I come to Notre Dame. I like him." Although Mullen has an impressive list of early offers, he did name a few other schools — USC, Georgia and Or- egon — he would like to receive an offer from. — Tom Loy Irish Defense Has Elite Cornerback's Attention TRAYVON MULLEN ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Coconut Creek High School Pompano Beach, Fla.
