A wild card will be third‑year Evan Nolte, who like Hall is versatile. Last season, Nolte was on the fringe of the rotation before showing well in the NCAA Tournament. If nothing else, Nolte provides a three‑point threat off the bench who can bust up zones. One of the most interesting early‑season story lines will be which first‑years, if any, can crack Bennett's rotation, which usually includes eight to nine players. The group includes Jack Salt, a 6‑11 center from New Zealand; Isaiah Wilkins, a 6‑7 forward from Georgia; Marial Shayok, a 6‑5 guard from Canada; and B.J. Stith, a 6‑5 guard from Law‑ renceville, Va. Salt's calling card is his physical play. Wilkins, the stepson of NBA Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins, is known for his high motor. Shayok, who originally committed to Marquette before head coach Buzz Williams left to take the job at Virginia Tech, can do a little bit of everything. Stith, the son of Virginia legend Bryant Stith, is the best shooter of the bunch. "I think we're going to need them. It just depends on so many things — foul trouble, injuries, all of those things come into play," Bennett said. "Our freshmen, all of them at times … they've shown flashes where, boy, I think they can help us. Then there are those times that you see they're spinning a little bit." Virginia's depth, just like last year, figures to be a big advantage. "We know if we get tired, we have somebody good coming off the bench and we're not going to lose a step," Gill said. "That really helps us out a lot because we can trust everybody completely." Of course, with Duke and North Carolina having restocked with McDonald's All‑Americans and the addition of Louisville into the ACC, replicating last season's success isn't going to be easy. "That's a mighty basketball league," said Bennett, smiling. "It's exciting. It really is. It's challenging." ◆ 2014-15 SCHEDULE Date Opponent (TV) Time (ET) Nov. 14 at James Madison 7 p.m. Nov. 16 Norfolk State* (RSN) 7 p.m. Nov. 18 South Carolina State (RSN) 7 p.m. Nov. 21 George Washington (ESPN3) 7 p.m. Nov. 25 Tennessee State* (ESPN3) 7 p.m. Nov. 28 vs. La Salle^ (NBCSN) 9:30 p.m. Nov. 29 vs. Rutgers/ Vanderbilt^ (NBCSN) 7/9:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at Maryland!
