student-athletes work with area
elementary and middle school stu-
dents to promote academic success,
support character development, and
strengthen and build leadership
qualities.
• Student-Athlete Mentor (SAM)
— student-athletes train as peer edu-
cators for their team regarding good
decision making with particular fo-
cus on substance use and misuse.
• Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC)
— student-athletes interface with UVa athletics
administration, University administration, the
ACC and NCAA to discuss matters of interest
regarding student-athlete well-being.
Student-athletes participated in a panel discussion as part of I Am More, a program to help
student-athletes transition from college to career.
