They stayed close to the top of the standings all year, and repeatedly proved their resilience to earn points in soccer, basketball and tennis in addition to their thrilling baseball championship to cap off the season." — Capital One senior vice president Marc Mentry after the Cavs received the Capital One Cup for men's sports at the ESPY Awards in July; the school boasted an ACC record three NCAA men's championships and a top-10 finish in basketball en route to winning the all-sports competition "We are certainly fortunate and excited to add Austin to the Virginia basketball family. The experience he brings will be invaluable. His redshirt year will be an opportunity for him to improve and be more ready to step in the following season and help our team. Austin is a great fit for our program and system." — Men's basketball coach Tony Bennett on adding Memphis transfer Austin Nichols to his program; as a second-year for the Tigers in 2014-15, the 6-9, 228-pound Nichols averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.4 blocked shots (which ranked third nationally) per game "After enrolling in January, the true freshman entered spring practice ranked No. 1 on the depth chart at weakside linebacker. Stalker "The sports world went crazy over New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham's one-handed touchdown catch against the Dallas Cowboys last November. Overshadowed by the hysteria created by that now-famous reception was an equally difficult one-handed grab by [fourth-year Canaan] Severin made a day earlier in a Virginia win over Miami. Severin dove for the ball, snagged it from a defender and went head first into the end zone for a 23-yard score." — Sporting News College Football Preview HOO'S TALKING ◆ Aug. 26, 1995 — Legendary running back Tiki Barber kicks off the season with the third of his school-record 19 career contests with at least 100 yards on the ground.
