3. Secondary — As good as the tackles are, a lot will also depend on the defensive backs for UVa this season. With Nicholson back for a fifth year at cornerback after taking a medical redshirt last year, UVa will have three talented corners, along with Canady and third-year Tim Harris. In fact, if Tenuta wants to get his best on the field, he could play Canady at safety alongside Blanding. Should the Cavaliers spend as much time as expected in the nickel package, the emergence this spring of redshirt fourth-year safety Kelvin Rainey certainly helps. 4. Running Back — Losing Kevin Parks and Khalek Shepherd hurts, without a doubt, but UVa will return third-year Taquan Mizzell and emerging third-year walk-on Daniel Hamm, as well as some talented young backs in Jordan Ellis, a redshirt first-year, and LaChaston Smith, a third-year. In addition, incoming first-years Chris Sharp and Olamide Zaccheaus join the program this summer, along with Maryland graduate transfer Albert Reid. With Beatty at the helm, this group will look to run with power this season. 5. Offensive Line — From a numbers standpoint, not many schools will have as much collective experience on the line as UVa will have this fall. At tackle, redshirt third-year Michael Mooney, third-year Eric Smith and redshirt second-year Jack English all played in games last year, while redshirt first-year Jake Fieler was the top right tackle on the post-spring depth chart. In addition, third-year Sadiq Olanrewaju and redshirt fourth-year Jay Whitmire are set to return from injury. Mean- while, the Cavaliers also boast a strong stable of guards in redshirt fourth-year Ross Burbank, redshirt third-year Sean Karl and redshirt second-year Jack McDonald, as well as centers Jackson Matteo, a redshirt third-year, and Eric Tetlow, a redshirt second-year. Lastly, former four-star recruit Steven Moss will also be a redshirt first-year.
