TOP QUESTION MARKS ENTERING FALL 1. What to expect, once again, at quarterback? A year ago, this was supposed to be Greyson Lambert's team. But even in the first game, turmoil reigned. He struggled in the opener against UCLA, had various peaks and valleys throughout the season, and Matt Johns saw time in every game. Ultimately, Lambert lost the starting job in spring ball before transferring to Georgia. Now, with Johns as the ex- pected starter under center, it remains to be seen just what the Cavaliers will get from that position. Behind the redshirt third-year, Arizona transfer Connor Brewer — who has two years of eligibility remaining — could be in the mix, as well as redshirt first-year Corwin Cutler. Whichever signal-caller gets the bulk of the work, he's got to avoid turnovers — UVa was 107th nationally last year in interceptions. 2. How will the O-line use its collective experience? Last season, UVa used a variety of offensive linemen throughout the year. Sometimes that was by necessity due to injury and other times it was just due to a rotation. Borbely will have a lot of experience this fall when training camp begins. The depth chart coming out of spring ball included seven linemen who played in games last season, but didn't include several others who are expected to rejoin the team this fall after rehabbing various injuries. No unit has as much depth, but as few firm answers, as the offensive line. 3. Can UVa run the ball with authority? How the offensive line comes together will directly impact how well the Cavaliers are able to run the ball, but equally important is how well the running backs respond. Beatty has already had an impact on north-south running by his backs, which was ev- ident this past spring. Last season, many expected Parks to build on his 1,000-yard season as a junior, and that just didn't happen. Taking away a lot of the Pistol formation looks might help, but they will need a mix of better blocking and better running. 4. Will Tenuta's defense be able to cause havoc? Last season led by a group of standouts on defense that included defensive end Eli Harold and linebackers Max Valles, Henry Coley and Daquan Romero, UVa was able to pick up sacks and force turnovers in big spots. Fast forward to this fall, as all four of those players are gone and Tenuta must be able to fill holes on the edges and replaces his two most productive line- backers. Virginia has depth at defensive tackle and in the secondary, but without some solid play elsewhere it might not matter. A lot of pressure will be on fourth-years Mike Moore and Kwontie Moore (no relation) at defensive end, as well as on presumptive linebacker starters third-year Zach Bradshaw, redshirt second-year Micah Kiser and redshirt third-year Mark Hall. Redshirt third-year Matt Johns is the expected starter at quarterback after throwing for 1,109 yards and eight scores in 2014 and outper- forming the competition in the spring. PHOTO COURTESY UVA
