M ichigan has one wide receiver committed in the 2016 class in Camden (N.J.) High four-star Brad Hawkins Jr., and may not be far from adding a second. A fellow South Jersey prospect and NJ.com second-team all- state pick last sea- son could help fill out the position's needs for the class. Egg Harbor City (N.J.) Cedar Creek wide receiver Ah- mir Mitchell is one of the nation's top players at his posi- tion — and over- all. Rivals.com's No. 8 wide re- ceiver and No. 51 overall recruit na- tionally is a 6-3, 202-pounder with all the athletic tools that could be molded into an outstanding pass catcher in college. He's also planning to make a summer decision. With just weeks remaining before the high school season begins in New Jersey, Mitchell has narrowed his list to two suitors: Ohio State and Michigan. He has yet to nail down specifics of the end of his recruiting process — includ- ing an exact date — but the Wolverines are in strong position to win out. "At this point, he's almost certainly going to be picking Michigan," Ri- vals.com Mid-Atlantic recruiting analyst Adam Friedman said. "It's not a question of who he picks, but when he does it." Camden (N.J.) High teammates Ron Johnson and H a w k i n s l i v e close to Mitchell in South Jersey, and the Michigan com- mit duo is putting in a good word for their future pro- gram, too. "Ahmir, he's pretty even with Ohio State and Michigan," John- son said. "I really don't have insider info on that situ- ation. I'm pretty sure he knows I'm pulling for Michi- gan. "We're in his ear, me and Brad, all the time. I see him a lot, so I try to make that statement to him. I pull the education factor in there. Ohio State really is not anywhere near the school that Michigan is. That's what I go with." Adding Mitchell would be good news for a Michigan program that has struggled for playmaking receivers in recent classes and a boost to U-M's re- cruiting on the East Coast.
