MICHIGAN RECRUITING
Paramus (N.J.) Catholic coach Chris
Partridge now entrenched as the Wol-
verines' director of player personnel,
New Jersey and the rest of the region
should remain priorities.
Mitchell caught 47 passes for 881
yards (18.7 yards per reception) and 12
touchdowns as a junior, while contrib-
uting 38 tackles and three interceptions
as a safety on the other side of the ball.
CLOSING STRONG
WITH FEW SCHOLARSHIPS
The Michigan coaching staff entered
fall camp with 22 prospects committed
in the class of 2016, and the number
of openings remaining for the group
is limited. In fact, without further at-
trition from the roster there isn't even
space remaining for all the current
pledges come February.
The Wolverines currently number
81 scholarship players (four below the
NCAA-mandated maximum of 85,
with the remaining four likely to go
to preferred walk-ons who earn them
in fall camp). Just 12 scholarship Wol-
verines have senior eligibility this fall,
meaning the current number available
for the 2016 class is just 16 signees.
However, several players with re-
maining eligibility could opt not to re-
turn in 2016. That attrition can happen
through early departures to the NFL,
players who aren't granted a fifth year
of eligibility after redshirting earlier in
their careers, those dismissed for off-
field issues, injured players who see
their careers end, or others who simply
want to try their hand at a different
school in search of more playing time.
